|This picture is typical of what I found as a result of the devastation caused by rebel fighting. No one had been to Gitega in Burundi in some 10 years and the open air crusade was attended by thousands. One result was the planting of a new church in Bukirasazi to which I am invited to conduct further crusade meetings. It will be a joy to meet and visit some of the hundreds who responded to the call of the Gospel on my last visit.
This visit will follow a return to Uvira in Congo. Situated on the edge of Lake Tanganyika, Uvira also had much fighting. I first met Pastor Jeremiah Rukukuye in Nairobi, where, as a refugee, he had planted several churches among the Congolese refugees. This will be a return to see the great work he has done since his return. New churches and a bible school together with work with orphans are among his labours.
Then back to my beloved Kenya where I will hold seminars, conferences and church meetings with five ministries over an eleven day period. It will be good to meet my good friends in Kitale, Kakamega, Mumias, Webuye and Kiminini. Some of these friendships go back to my first Kenya visit in 1987.
Small wonder that I found retirement as such impossible!
